DISC INJURY CARE

Herniated Disc Treatment in Sunrise, FL

A herniated disc occurs when the soft inner material of a spinal disc pushes through its outer wall, often compressing nearby nerves and causing significant pain. At Live Well Chiropractic, we use spinal decompression therapy and corrective chiropractic care to reduce disc herniation, relieve nerve pressure, and help patients avoid surgery.

Understanding Disc Injuries

The spinal discs sit between each vertebra and act as shock absorbers for the spine. Each disc has a tough outer ring (annulus fibrosus) and a gel-like center (nucleus pulposus). A herniated disc — sometimes called a slipped or ruptured disc — occurs when the inner gel pushes through a tear in the outer ring. A bulging disc is a less severe form where the disc extends beyond its normal boundary without rupturing. Both conditions can compress spinal nerves and produce pain, numbness, and weakness.

Disc injuries most commonly occur in the lower back (lumbar spine) and the neck (cervical spine). They can result from sudden trauma, repetitive bending and lifting, prolonged poor posture, or gradual degeneration over time. Degenerative disc disease, in which discs lose hydration and structural integrity with age, increases the risk of herniation.

How Spinal Decompression Works

Spinal decompression therapy is one of the most effective non-surgical treatments for herniated and bulging discs. The therapy uses a computerized table to gently stretch the spine, creating negative pressure within the affected disc. This negative intradiscal pressure helps retract the herniated material away from the nerve, reduces inflammation, and draws oxygen and nutrients into the disc to promote healing.

Our patients in Sunrise and Davie have experienced significant improvement in disc-related symptoms through a combination of decompression therapy and corrective chiropractic adjustments. By restoring proper vertebral alignment alongside decompression, we address both the disc injury itself and the structural factors that contributed to it.

Beyond Pain Relief

Disc herniations rarely occur in isolation. They are almost always connected to underlying spinal misalignment, postural dysfunction, or muscular imbalances that create uneven loading on the discs. Our corrective approach addresses these contributing factors to reduce the risk of re-injury and support long-term spinal health.
