SHOULDER CARE
Frozen Shoulder Treatment in Sunrise, FL
Frozen shoulder, known medically as adhesive capsulitis, causes progressive stiffness and pain that can make everyday tasks like reaching overhead or behind your back extremely difficult. At Live Well Chiropractic, we combine chiropractic care with targeted rehabilitation to restore shoulder mobility and reduce pain at every stage of this condition.
What Is Frozen Shoulder?
Frozen shoulder occurs when the connective tissue capsule surrounding the shoulder joint thickens and tightens, forming adhesions that restrict movement. The condition develops gradually and typically progresses through three stages: the freezing stage, in which pain increases and range of motion begins to decrease; the frozen stage, in which pain may lessen but stiffness is at its worst; and the thawing stage, in which movement slowly begins to return.
The condition most commonly affects adults between 40 and 60 years old and is more prevalent in women. Risk factors include diabetes, thyroid disorders, prolonged immobilization after surgery or injury, and cardiovascular disease. Left untreated, frozen shoulder can persist for one to three years, significantly impacting quality of life and the ability to work and perform daily activities.
The Chiropractic and Rehabilitation Approach
While frozen shoulder is primarily a joint capsule condition, it is often accompanied by compensatory problems in the cervical and thoracic spine. When shoulder mobility is restricted, patients tend to alter their posture and movement patterns, which places abnormal stress on the neck and upper back. Our treatment addresses both the shoulder dysfunction and any secondary spinal issues that develop.
Treatment may include gentle chiropractic adjustments to the shoulder, cervical, and thoracic spine; targeted stretching and range-of-motion exercises; soft tissue therapy to release adhesions; and progressive strengthening as mobility improves. Patients throughout Sunrise and Plantation have found that early intervention significantly shortens the duration of frozen shoulder and produces better long-term outcomes.
Why Early Treatment Matters
Many patients assume frozen shoulder will resolve on its own and delay seeking care. While the condition does eventually thaw in most cases, the process can take years without treatment, and some patients never fully regain their range of motion. Early intervention during the freezing stage — when adhesions are just beginning to form — offers the best opportunity to minimize stiffness, maintain mobility, and shorten recovery time.
